Apparently, the little girl died as a result of the surgery. There are details that all indicate that she did not survive like the man burning of incense to honor the dead, the girl's uniform(s?) being wrong and other stuff like that. It appears that the story is actually the man being overwhelmed with grief, going through recordings of his memories with her after her demise. Kind of a downer.

My sister was 1 year older than me but she was an early bloomer, at 13 she was way taller than me and had developed feminine traits before other girls. This meant she was 13 but easily passed for 18 and if we stood side by side, I looked like her younger nephew or little cousin. That's roughly normal though, women start puberty on average 2 years earlier than men, and some women go through puberty very quickly, the saying "women mature faster than men" is actually true here.

12 year olds that look like that? I haven't seen, but my sister looked reasonably close to that at 13 and it suuucked. I've never seen a woman mature more quickly than my sister did but I'm sure that some rare women do.
